Prior to the 2016 election, I didn’t think much about my brown skin or that my parents were immigrants. I have been called exotic or people have given me a curious stare because I do not speak English with a Spanish accent (maybe a California Accent). I am from Los Angeles and attended an inner city Catholic school for most of my life. All of the kids I went to school with looked liked me and if they didn’t look like me, we were for the most part Catholic with immigrant parents. Fast forward to today, I make it a point to tell people that my parents are immigrants and we are no different. I live in Tennessee (Trump Country and that’s ok). I am an American just like you. Our politics may be different but, we are all human and beautiful. All of my ideas and creativity are fueled by that Latina fire and passion.
